What is AquaSim?

AquaSim is an analysis tool developed by Aquastructures. The software is based on the calculation method Finite Element Method (FEM). It is applied for structural analysis of marine- and land-based structures.

The AquaSim package provides a complete solution from preprocessing with drawing and specification of material properties, calculations of response due to environmental loads, to postprocessing and presentation of results.

AquaSim is based on time domain analysis, meaning it accounts for time-varying loads.

What is Finite Element Method?

Finite Element Method (FEM) is a numerical technique for solving of partial differential equations. FEM is based on subdividing a structure into a discrete number of smaller elements. This is done through discretization. Simple equations are established for each element and assembled into larger systems of equations to solve the problem. Fundamentals of the Finite Element Method in AquaSim is found in the AuqaSim Package Theory User Manual https://aquasim.no/documentation/tutorials.html.
