Postprocessing
Last reviewed version: 2.16.4Open result file
In the Analyse window, select Open. This will load the postprocessing tool AquaView. The model is presented in a 3D view as it was built in AquaEdit.
The blue square seen in the 3D view, is the water surface. This is adjustable in size and transparency.
Review interface of AquaView
In this section, an introduction to the interface of AquaView is presented. For more detailed information, please see the AquaView User Manual found in your installation folder Aquastructures\AquaSim\doc or at aquasim.no. The top Toolbar menu provides access to view analysis results, camera views and too
- The main view is where the model is presented with results in time-domain. Several
- blue bars are seen to the left, right and above the main view:
- Left side:
- controls the Graphic color palette. By click and drag, the color rendering of results in the main view is adjusted.
- Right side:
- controls the visual size of the nodes for a selected element in the model.
- Top:
- controls the transparency of the water surface
At the lower most part of AquaView, you find the playback controls. It enables for continuous playback of the analysis, as well as choosing specific timesteps. Options for recording of videos and screen shots are also found here.
Water surface
You should adjust the size of the water surface. From the top Toolbar menu, select Tools > Water surface > Set water surface.
In the Set water surface window type X-min=-10 Y-min=-10 X-max=20 Ymax=20. Select OK. The size of the water surface is updated
Plot shear force
From the top Toolbar menu select Result > Local section forces > Shear force Z [N]. You should see the shear force in z-direction for the beam in the 3D view. By pressing the results from time domain analysis are played. Observe how the beam deform and the colors change as a function of analysis steps.
Step 1 is results from calculation of static equilibrium between internal force in the beam (weight, buoyancy) and the external force from the point load. Step 2-5 are identical to the results in step 1, this is due to only static forces are defined prior to calculation. (Quasi)static loads (current, regular wind) are not included in the analysis.
Graphing results for element
The results may also be presented in a graph as a function of analysis steps. Use your mouse pointer and right click on the beam element in the 3D view. The Element result window will appear, presenting the results both as a table and in a graph.
As mentioned earlier, each element is connected by two nodes. In the Element result window, results are presented for node A (the first node of the element) and node B (the second node of the element). By selecting the checkbox B, shear force for the free end is presented. Take note of the maximum shear force at node B is 980.0 N at Properties of Beam component.
